Description
Recognizing that the leaders in long-term care play a critical role in the development of their staff and programs within their organization, the P.I.E.C.E.S. Leadership and Performance Improvement Program has been developed to ensure success of the various P.I.E.C.E.S. programs. The program program provides a solid foundation in P.I.E.C.E.S. concepts and an innovative practical tool that promotes dialogue, on the job learning, and team problem-solving. This highly interactive session provides practical ideas for transferring knowledge into day-to-day practices and sustaining P.I.E.C.E.S. learning in the longer-term. In Ontario, the Enabler is a prerequisite for LTC homes wanting to enrol a staff member in the 40-hour In-House Psychogeriatric Resource Person (PRP) Development Program.
A similar program has also been designed for Geriatric Outreach and Specialty teams given their key role in supporting the in-house P.I.E.C.E.S. Resource Persons in their clinical practice.
A P.I.E.C.E.S. Leadership and Performance Improvement program has been also been designed specifically for physicians; this program provides them with useful tools for assessment and care planning in their own practice and helps them to work effectively and support P.I.E.C.E.S. trained individuals and other health care providers.
The goals of the P.I.E.C.E.S. Leadership and Performance Improvement Program are to:
Familiarize participant with P.I.E.C.E.S. and assessment tools and screening guides taught in the program.
Introduce an innovative yet practical tool to improve the observations of the "Team" and to teach the importance of knowledge exchange regarding the resident/client; the tool improves the reporting process within a team and helps to inform assessment and care planning.
Provide an implementation framework for leaders to engage teams in effective dialogue about practice improvements and on-the-job learning for front line workers.
Identify clinical coaching and support strategies to P.I.E.C.E.S in-house resource persons and others.
